This initiative aims to promote the adoption and development of technologies and methodologies related to Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) in the automotive sector of the Basque Country.
SDVs are transforming the automotive industry by centralizing functionalities in software rather than dedicated hardware. By equipping the regional automotive sector with new technologies tailored to the industry and aligned with new European guidelines, the project’s goal is to strengthen competitiveness by driving research and the development of innovative solutions.
- Promote technological development in automotive companies within the Basque Autonomous Community (BAC), equipping them with new technologies tailored to the industry and the latest European SDV guidelines.
- Ensure that companies in the automotive sector in the BAC maintain their competitiveness and relevance in an ever-evolving environment, enabling them to offer value-added products that can be integrated into SDV architectures.
- Create a comprehensive digital ecosystem, supported by industrial research activities aligned with the BAC’s policies, that provides support to automotive companies in the design and development of parts and systems.
- Establish a collaborative environment enabled by the results of the proposed research activities, where automotive companies can work closely with their clients to jointly design and develop new products.

To achieve the e4SDV project, a consortium has been established, consisting of 10 Basque entities representing sectors related to the automotive industry:
- BasqueCCAM, project leader.
- ACICAE, AVL Iberica Euskadi, Obe Hettich, Maier, Masermic, Owasys, RPK, S2 Grupo, Soluzioona.
To achieve the proposed technological objectives, the project will also involve subcontracting various agents from the Basque Network of Science, Technology, and Innovation (RVCTI): AIC – Automotive Intelligence Center, Maier Technology Center, RPK Technological Center, Tekniker, and Vicomtech.
- Smartization and digitalization of automotive components: Transform traditional automobile components into intelligent and connected elements, capable of collecting, processing, and transmitting data in real-time by integrating sensors, actuators, communication systems, and sophisticated software into mechanical and electrical parts.Ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of these digitized components in demanding automotive environments, developing robust fault detection systems, secure communication protocols, and mechanisms to protect against cyber intrusions.Optimize the performance and interoperability of these digitized components within broader intelligent vehicle architectures, achieving seamless integration with other vehicle systems to ensure smooth operation and a safe and comfortable driving experience.
Overcome current technical challenges in the development and implementation of innovative technologies that enable the smartization and digitalization of automotive components, positioning the automotive industry at the forefront of technological innovation and digital transformation.
